Shiny Rate Complaints from Pokemon Go Fest Players

Attendees of the Pokemon Go Fest are dissatisfied with the low rate of Shinies found during the event. Today is the first day of Pokemon Go Fest, a two-day global event that gives players the opportunity to capture rare Pokemon and meet the mythical Pokemon Shaymin for the first time. When it comes to Pokemon Go Fest, Shiny Pokemon are a major attraction. This year's Pokemon Go event will see a few changes to how Shiny Pokemon appear, but many players aren't happy about what they see as a low rate of appearance.

Pokemon Go players who have a ticket for this year's event will have an increased chance of finding Shiny Pokémon in the wild and when using Incense. In addition, the Shiny rate is expected to be higher than it was on Sunday. In previous events, players were able to catch dozens of shiny Pokemon if they played for the entire duration of the event. The Shiny rate appears to have been lowered on the Silph Road subreddit and on Twitter, according to some players. One player claimed to play for four hours and only catch two Shiny Pokemon, while another player claimed to play for seven hours and only catch zero Shiny Pokemon.

Niantic conceals the Shiny Encounter rate during "boosted" events in order to avoid discouraging players from purchasing tickets, which is part of the problem. It's possible that Niantic developers fear that advertising Pokemon Go Fest's slightly higher Shiny rate will deter ticket sales. It's difficult to tell if the Shiny encounter rate is lower than usual, but there do appear to be more complaints than in previous years. Having a higher chance of encountering a Shiny Pokemon doesn't guarantee that you'll get one, as the game uses RNG when determining encounters.
